Biography
Dr. Florian Götzinger re-joined the Department of Paediatric and Adolescent Health of Klinik Ottakring and the National Reference Centre for Childhood Tuberculosis in 2019, after working in the United Kingdom as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology and finishing his postgraduate diploma in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Oxford (2017). Since 2020 he is programme director for Paediatric Infectious Diseases for the Vienna Healthcare Group. His main research interests are tuberculosis in children, migrant health and echinococcosis. In addition, he has a strong interest in respiratory infections in children and was first author of the first clinical multi-centre study on COVID-19 in children outside China, which has been cited more than 1500 times to date and is one of the most highly cited papers published in The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health.

Dr. Florian Götzinger studied medicine in Austria (Vienna Medical University) and France (Université Bordeaux – II). From 2014 he has been working clinically in Paediatrics and Paediatric Infectious Diseases. Prior to relocating to Vienna worked as a senior clinical fellow (Specialist Registrar 3 level) in Paediatric Infectious Diseases & Immunology at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Guy’s & St. Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. Currently, he is visiting professor at the Vienna Medical University, and the co-ordinator of undergraduate medical student education at the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Health of Klinik Ottakring.

He was awarded a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Travel Medicine (Bernhard Nocht Institute, Hamburg, Germany) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Paediatric Infectious Diseases (University of Oxford, UK).

He is currently the elected Secretary of the Paediatric Tuberculosis Network European Trials Group (ptbnet), the chair of the division for transcultural paediatrics and the deputy chair of the working group for infectious diseases of the Austrian Society of Paediatrics. He was country representative for the Austrian ministry of health at the last two WHO Europe workshops on childhood tuberculosis (2017, 2019) and a member of the WHO technical advisory group for safe schooling during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020 – 2022). Furthermore, he was member of the Austrian high council of health during the COVID-19 pandemic (Covid-19 treatment group and Long COVID group), advising the Ministry of Health.
